NIAAA Logo Design by Leigh
Harris
The basic concept of the design is a turtle, in particular its shell
in which both sea and fresh water turtles were mixed to indicate Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander arts and crafts (indicated in the legs).
The shell of the turtle is very strong and acts as a protective barrier
form the outside, in the same way NIAAA will provide for Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander arts and crafts.
The curved lines in the background of the design represent the continued
flow of water that keeps the turtle alive and similarly, represent the
way the National Indigenous Arts Advocacy Association will provide a continuous
flow of help to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and crafts.
Together, these symbols represent NIAAA as a protector and provider
of help to Indigenous artists, which as we all know is much needed.
